Derek paused; one hand on top of the shoe rack and the other holding his phone up to his face. It had to be for someone else. They hadn’t spoken in two months. They were on a break. Stiles had found someone else. Someone else he cared about enough for them to not get wet. It shouldn’t have upset him, it was just a fucking raincoat for fuck’s sake, but the message was so lovingly domestic, Derek felt like someone’d punched him in the heart. It wasn’t just that Stiles was seeing someone else, it’s that he found someone else so quickly.

Pretend it was Laura’s upper body that was found by the Beacon Hills Sheriff’s Department, Derek waited a few days before coming after Laura, and that Deaton figured Scott out straight away.
