Summary
Pacing the hotel room, Kaoru took deep breaths, trying to slow his pounding heart and calm the adrenaline racing through him.
The job had gone off without a hitch, everything went perfectly according to plan—the image of the reticle was fresh in his mind, Kaoru still saw it stark and clear every time he closed his eyes.
The hit. His last hit. He bit his lips to keep from smiling, even though no one else was in the room to see him. This was it! He was finally getting out!
The loud knock nearly startled him out of his skin and he rolled his eyes at himself as he strode over to impatiently open the door.
And standing on the other side was the last person in the entire world he ever expected to see.
“Kojiro?” Kaoru asked, mind racing as he stared at that familiar-yet-not face. Of the million questions he should ask, all that came out of his mouth was, “You’re my transporter?”
“No,” Kojiro said. “I’m supposed to kill you.”
Betrayed after the final hit of his career, Kaoru's only hope at survival is teaming up with the man sent to kill him - the best friend who thought he died 12 years ago.

Summary
He’d finally found it:
Black Water Demon Lair!
Shi Qingxuan wasn’t quite sure he’d ever really be able to find it. Xie Lian had certainly tried to dissuade him; it was only after Shi Qingxuan declared he would look the rest of his life if that’s what it took that Xie Lian cajoled some leads from his Crimson Rain Sought Flower.
Xie Lian had wished him well…though if Shi Qingxuan was serious about spending the rest of his life looking, then they’d probably never see each other again.
And that thought had honestly made Shi Qingxuan a little sad. Xie Lian was his very good friend, after all.
But “very good friend” isn’t the same as “best friend”…
And that’s who Shi Qingxuan was determined to find.
It hadn’t been easy. And for all that people tended to treat him like an idiot, Shi Qingxuan wasn’t dumb enough to assume it would be so simple.
But if he could just find Ship-Sinking Black Water—
No.
If he could just find He Xuan, then it would be worth it.
Shi Qingxuan finally finds Nether Water Manor, assuring himself he’s prepared for what’s inside.
He’s not.

Kyouji reached for the pack of cigarettes in his pocket, hesitated just a second, then let his hand fall. He could smoke in the car, not like Satomi was in it today.
Maybe never would be again after that outburst yesterday.
Kyouji snorted at the memory. Poor little Satomi all teary-eyed and furious, torquing off and throwing that stupid charm right in Kyouji’s face.
Calling him an idiot.
Which…Kyouji was an idiot, so that was probably fair.
Kyouji does some thinking in the car.

Summary
Kyouji really wished he could have a cigarette.
But smoking in the airport was a no-go.
Kyouji watched, feeling a bit like a stalker. Which, okay, maybe he kind of was. But not in a bad way. …He was pretty sure.
When he’d first met Satomi, he hadn’t really thought anything of it. Just that the kid had the voice of an angel and to someone desperately clutching at any straw trying to survive the stupid karaoke competition, that middle school boy felt like a gift from God.
Kyouji snorted quietly. An angel sent from heaven. To a yakuza. Yeah right.
And yet…
Kyouji must be getting old(er), standing in the airport reminiscing about the past like a schmuck.
He’s never been the best at making the right—or even good—decisions…
Does he approach Satomi or not? -

Summary
“But my brother’s just a baby!”
The Water God demanded a sacrifice. And the one he’d chosen as his ‘bride’ was none other than Shi Wudu’s infant brother.
“He has been chosen,” the priest explained. “But the Water God has no taste for infants; in ten years, he’ll demand his bride.”
“Ten years…” Shi Wudu repeated thoughtfully.
There would be no escaping this. Even with a ten year reprieve, they couldn’t run, couldn’t hide. The kingdom existed only as long as the Water God was appeased—now that the bride had been chosen, the palace would have people watching them. And even if they could flee from their mortal watchers, the Water God had marked his bride and would be able to find him anywhere. The child was now his.
But because the kingdom existed if the Water God was appeased, the family of the sacrifice would receive royal favor; Shi Wudu’s life would be one of riches and ease and all he had to do was throw his brother into the ocean.
Could he sacrifice his little brother?
No.
But could he sacrifice someone else?
He had ten years to find a perfect substitute.

He’d been to plenty of weddings in his day; he had no desire to attend many more as a guest. Being paid to go and cater was just fine by him.
…Though he had to admit he’d had more than one memorable encounter with a bridesmaid or two over the years. He smirked a little in spite of himself. Being a wedding guest hadn’t been all bad.
He had been younger then, where weddings were parties and easy pickings for eager and willing one-night stands. But that sort of thing had lost its shine; Kojiro no longer felt it had any appeal.
Getting laid and having a bit of fun had no appeal? Kojiro huffed a laugh; maybe he really was getting old.
No, that wasn’t quite fair, he mentally argued, checking the layout of the buffet table one last time. Getting laid and having a bit of fun definitely had appeal. A lot of it.
But doing that with “just anyone” didn’t.
Kojiro frowned slightly, hand hovering above a chafing dish.
Who did he want to do it with, then?
With the food ready and nothing to do but wait, Kojiro gets a bit introspective at a wedding catering gig

Recently Shen Qiao felt a little…off.
For a moment he wondered if he’d been poisoned somehow or unknowingly fallen prey to some unheard-of technique. But he wasn’t an idiot; he wouldn’t fall for something like that and have no inkling how or when it had occurred. Besides, he hadn’t even been anywhere recently besides the villa with Yan Wushi and if that wasn’t the safest place in the world then Shen Qiao didn’t know what was—
And that’s when Shen Qiao had an uncomfortable thought.
Even though Yan Wushi wasn’t above teasing Shen Qiao with potions or certain creative techniques, Shen Qiao knew in his heart that was not the case (this time). But now that Yan Wushi had come to mind, Shen Qiao realized that this particular feeling wasn’t totally unfamiliar, wasn’t quite as foreign as he’d originally thought…
It was just that usually it stayed locked behind a warm haze of blurry memories and was relatively temporary, resolved (after being caused) by Yan Wushi—
Shen Qiao’s face burned with the realization:
He was horny?!
Much to his surprise, Shen Qiao is horny. Considering who he's with, that should be an easy enough fix, right?

Marito couldn’t sleep.
Outa was next to him, conked out, breathing softly.
Usually Marito fell asleep even before Outa did. Hell, part of the reason he helped himself to so many sleepovers was he always got the best sleep of his life sawing logs next to Outa. It was safe and warm and snuggly and great, like sleeping next to a big ol’ muscly teddy bear—who wouldn’t love that?!
But Marito was fucking wide awake. Couldn’t sleep.
Because he was hard as a rock.
Outa’s hot as hell and Marito is horny as fuck.

Summary
One day on his way home from visiting Shi Qingxuan, Xie Lian spotted a little girl by the side of the road, playing in the dirt.
“Mud pies! Fresh mud pies!” she called playfully, patting them out and showing them off in her palm. She already had several stacked up around her. The travelers on the outskirts of the capital were too busy coming or going; they didn’t have time for a child playing pretend in the mud.
Xie Lian, however, had all the time in the world.
Seeing someone actually stop, the little girl perked up and honed in on her potential buyer.
“Mud pie, daozhang?”

Summary
Yin Yu wasn’t all that cognizant as a little ghost fire. He wandered in and out of consciousness for what seemed like forever, playing and replaying his life’s events over and over again until one day he gasped (unnecessarily) awake in Paradise Manor.
He was back in his body and back at work? Was it all just a crazy dream?
But no, the memories were painfully clear—as was the surprise on His Highness’s face.
“You’re awake!” Xie Lian said, sounding pleasantly surprised.
When Yin Yu had died at the hands of the Heavenly Emperor, the last thing he had seen was His Highness.
…And Quan Yizhen, beaten to a pulp and sobbing because he couldn’t save his shixiong.
Yin Yu didn’t want to care, didn’t want these to be the first words out of his mouth after his resurrection, but the question tumbled from his lips anyway:
“Is Yizhen okay?”
Quan Yizhen wanted to be the first person Yin Yu saw when he finally returned. (He wasn't.)
...But he was the first person Yin Yu thought about.
Whether Yin Yu wanted to admit it or not.

Summary
He Xuan owed Hua Cheng a lot—both metaphorically and (unfortunately) literally. More than he could likely ever repay. Yet even after all Hua Cheng had done for him, He Xuan couldn’t help but resent him because…how was it that Hua Cheng was so fucking happy?
It wasn’t fair!
He Xuan had finally gotten his revenge after centuries of plotting and scheming, of pretending and searching and planning. That fucker Shi Wudu was dead—albeit not quite according to plan, and that was still a bit vexing, but getting to rip his fucking head off was probably the next best way for him to go.
And that twit Shi Qingxuan was stripped of his godhood, cut off from spiritual power, and living as a mortal in pain and squalor.
So why didn’t it feel good?
Hua Cheng had finally gotten what he wanted and was happy. So why, when He Xuan got what he wanted, was he still so fucking miserable?
For his own satisfaction, He Xuan needs to see Shi Qingxuan's misery and suffering firsthand. And if that means adopting a disguise and getting close again...well. It's all in the name of revenge.
Right?

“Oh, I can’t believe I didn’t tell you: I got a new cat.”
Kaoru stared back flatly. “A new cat. Another new cat.”
“Mm,” Nacht said, sipping his coffee. “Another one.”
Nacht could address years of pining and complicated emotions...or he could just pretend like he's fine and keep collecting cats instead.

Summary
Xie Lian stretched awake, a drowsy pout on his lips as he felt around the oddly-empty bed. Hua Cheng wasn’t always there when Xie Lian woke, but he was certainly there more often than not, and he hadn’t mentioned any pressing business that would have him out of bed first thing in the morning.
Then Xie Lian’s handed brushed against something silky—even silkier than usual but oddly…short? Did something happen to Hua Cheng’s beautiful long hair?
Or…
Xie Lian sat with a jerk and then stared down at the pillow.
No.
Something happened to Hua Cheng.
Although Xie Lian had been a bit startled at first, he had no doubt that’s who this was next to him sleeping like…
Well.
Like a baby.
Hua Cheng gets turned into a baby. Xie Lian doesn't exactly mind.

Summary
Pei Ming was dying.
As a winner of countless battles, he probably shouldn’t be surprised; perhaps it was always destined to come to this. As much as he joked about wanting to die in bed, the battlefield was always where he would meet his end.
And he had won, again, this time. It just cost him his life to do it.
Cries of celebration at their victory were mixed with urgent calls for help for the wounded, but either it was too familiar, layering over hundreds of other battles won over a thousand years, or Pei Ming’s imminent death had muffled the sound, making it sound farther away than it was.
Either way, it didn’t matter now, did it?
At the end of his very long life, he surprised himself with his single wish:
He wanted to see her.

Summary
Everything was going wrong in Pei Ming’s life and it was Rain Master Yushi Huang’s fault.
Well, to be fair, it was probably Jun Wu’s fault, if Pei Ming was being technical about it.
If Jun Wu hadn’t gone completely bonkers, then the shit currently responsible for ruining Pei Ming’s life—such as repeatedly getting bucked off a black ox, killing fewer corpse rats than non-martial-god Rain Master Yushi Huang, getting roasted and toasted and looking very un-suave in front of everyone including (again) Rain Master Yushi Huang, etc.—theoretically wouldn’t have happened.
But when it came down to it, aside from Jun Wu, there was one glaringly obvious common factor to Pei Ming’s ongoing misfortune.
Ever since all hell broke loose (er, all heaven broke loose, to be literal?) and he lost to Rain Master Yushi Huang, Pei Ming’s luck had never recovered.
Pei Ming was a doer, not a thinker, and he was at his wit’s end trying to think of a solution—so he'd fix things the only way he knew how.
The bad luck started with Rain Master, so logically it would end there too.
Or: Pei Ming thinks that all he has to do is win against Yushi Huang.

“I never need an excuse to gush about Kunigami,” Chigiri said serenely. He let out a contented sigh. “I…am so. insanely. happy. This is the happiest I’ve ever been. He’s always hugging me and kissing me and snuggling me and—ugh. It’s all I’ve ever wanted; I might just vomit rainbows right here.”
“I might just vomit, period,” Reo offered wryly.
“Please, neither of you vomit,” Aryu pleaded, trying not to laugh. “I’m happy for you, Chigiri. You waited a long time.”
“I wanna marry him,” Chigiri announced.
Aryu’s friends are hopelessly in love. Reo and Nagi are married, Chigiri won’t shut up about Kunigami so that wedding’s bound to happen sooner rather than later.
But Aryu and Barou have been dating longer than all of them and while they’ve never been particularly “lovey dovey”…something’s up.
They’ve survived the seven-year-itch but maybe Barou’s finally ready to call it quits?

Summary
Yami woke, eyes bloodshot and rimmed with dark circles, and just stared at the ceiling.
Okay, just because he was having the most vivid wet dreams he’d had since he was a teenager (which was also when he met Nacht, but that had to be coincidence, right?) did not mean he was in love with the guy—
With an irritated groan, Yami grabbed his pillow and shoved it over his face and let out a yell, trying to smother the sound and himself both.

Chigiri swung languidly around the pole, warming up. The club pitched itself as something more artistic, more elite—but it was all nudity at the end of the day so Chigiri harbored no illusions. But it was a pretty sweet gig, he figured; people adored him, wanted him, and paid him well for the privilege of both.
And he got decent exercise while he was at it.
Strategically arching his back (and sticking out his ass), he glanced into the nameless crowd with practiced bedroom eyes and a sexy smirk—
And realized at least one person in the crowd wasn’t so nameless after all.
Sitting at the table closest to the stage, staring up at him with eyes that Chigiri had never forgotten, was Kunigami Rensuke.
Eight-ish years after Blue Lock, Chigiri is a stripper—er, exotic dancer. The last person he ever expected to see—and the one person he’s wanted to see the most—is in the crowd.

Summary
With a stiff neck and a pounding headache, Kojiro Nanjo sputtered awake, choking on a rose petal he nearly inhaled.
Gagging and spitting, he groggily propped himself up on an elbow and looked around with bleary eyes. The room wasn’t his, but it was massive. So obviously the bed wasn’t his either, but it was also massive and stunk of roses due to the petals scattered liberally over the duvet. Kojiro rolled over onto his back and immediately regretted it; the room spun and he was too hot and why was he still fully dressed and where even was this—
A fresh wave of nausea washed over him as it all came rushing back.
The wedding.
Kojiro gets left at the altar. So he goes on his "honeymoon" by himself.
