His sweet, adorable, little brother hunches his shoulders inwards and sniffles. The last of his tears are drying on his cheeks, the salt tracks already chapping them.

He went to work and then suddenly his childhood best friend who abandoned him was introduced as his boss. He went to his college classes and one of his classmates (or the professor!) was sparkling. Fuck, not even the doctor was safe! Last time he'd went there, the guy with the unfortunate mustache had tripped and fallen into his lap! The flu wasn't sexy, universe!
Then it started to get worse. Buff guys passed out in alleyways that he needed to avoid helping. Kids crying and lost, because they had the aura; the little fuck would come after him in ten year's time like a slow release bomb! Shen Jiu had helped a snake after it almost got ran over and he had a fucking flag on his back! What the hell!
And then there had been Luo Binghe's deadbeat dad that one time, which was probably worse than all the age gaps or snake loving combined. He'd rather not even think about that- it still gave him nightmares.
The world was out for Shen Jiu's ass. Literally, by the caliber of men it was sending after him. What if he didn't want to be the fucking mewling bottom, you shitty world? Did you ever think of that?

Shen Yuan trailed off, mentally picturing his Ideal War God.
Shen Yuan transmigrates into the body of a custom wife early into the PIDW timeline. That was how simpletons like his fellow Peak Lords rationalized it.
Shen Qingqiu thought that perhaps Zhao Qinglin was just a lay about. Kan Zhanbu was the tiniest of the twelve Peaks. The last that Shen Qingqiu had heard, the Peak only boasted one Elder, two Masters, and five Disciples- none of this counting Zhao Qinglin himself. Shen Yuan wanted very badly to cough up blood, light a candle in his heart, maybe cry... but instead he just kept pumping qi into his legs, willing himself to flash step faster and faster to try and avoid his most recent pursuer.

It took Liu Qingge much too long to realize he was being watched.
Freezing, Liu Qingge whipped his head around, sword half raised. Something had crawled from the dark space under the barrel.
It was a Dragon. Pure white with a large, fluffy mane. Only part of the creature was out of the darkness, hiding how long it truly was. One claw was gripping the wall, bright blue claws gently grasping some piece of metal. Its horns were lengthy and sharp with three prongs each, the same rich ocean's blue as its claws. The eyes that stared down from its slender face was the same blue, blue, blue. It seemed just as surprised to see Liu Qingge as he was to see it. There was no malice in its unblinking gaze, only curiosity as it examined him.
A song haunts the narrative between two souls as it forces them to confront fate. Shen Yuan reaches for the song eagerly, trying to prevent disaster. Liu Qingge curls his fingers in his ears, blaming himself for pain he's yet to cause.

Crumpled and broken, mud sticking to pale green hair and fat drops of water and blood soaking dark clothes. Jeritza would have thought them dead if not for the shaky rise and fall of their chest, the shivering of the cold that must have been seeping down into bones. He grips his sword handle, hand trembling, and knows the best thing to do would be to finish this creature off, this terror disguised as a person, but he finds his strength is not in him.
He is not the man he was years ago, was maybe never a man at all. Something shakes at his core and he swears he hears a voice in his head, hissing and soft, the echo of reverence in her tone.
"Repent." She says, and he blinks the vision of a girl with slitted eyes away. "Repent". She threatens again, sweet and harsh. He falls to his knees, legs jelly, as something unfurls in his chest. He does not know why he cries.
