Trinity is trying to push him back down towards his mattress but it takes him a good few seconds to realize that, for his brain to connect back with his current reality. She's trying to speak, to calm him, but between his own screams and the chanting still filling his ears he hadn't heard a single word she'd said.

Dennis Abraham Whitaker was born to Gabriel Simon Whitaker and Miriam Liza Whitaker in the summer of 1997.
He was called a blessing in disguise for much of his early life—which is to say, he was a mistake.
His mother and aunt used to call him their summer child. The way his mother said it with a tilt of her head, as if trying to explain every strange, quiet thing about him, made it seem like a bad thing. As if the season itself had baked him too long or made him tender. To Dennis, it seemed to imply that he was overripe. That he would bruise if you pressed too hard. That he was something that wouldn't keep through the winter.
As if the July heat could account for the way he preferred sitting in the high pasture with the cows, watching the way they meandered, over throwing a football in the yard with his brothers.
Summer child.

His throat burned as he swallowed the remnants of drool still lingering in his mouth, causing him to hunch forward and cough violently while clutching his sore neck. He winced quietly at the scratchy feeling traveling down his esophagus, now becoming more apparent with his conscious state. His head pounded like a drum, the sound of his own heart pumping blood filling his ears. Sweat dripped down the back of his neck, soaking the back of his sleep shirt and leaving a trail to the “Dennis shaped” sweat stain left on his sheets. He took a deep breath trying to rekindle himself, only to be met by a crackle in his lungs and a concerning wheeze, exploding into another violent cough.
Yup. He was definitely sick.
Or Dennis Whitaker stubbornly decides to go to work with a fever, causing a catastrophic series of events, scaring Dr. "Robby" Rabinovitch to death and sparking a deep-seated confession.
