“Hopefully it will serve as a deterrent for other alphas wanting to try their luck,” replies Neuvillette.

“I’m afraid so. Lady Furina is urging me to find a mate to put an end to these attempts,” reveals the Iudex, a hint of frustration in his voice.
“...Are you considering it?” asks Wriothesley after a beat of silence, finding Neuvillette’s gaze.
“I have no desire to bond myself to someone I hold no love towards. But our Archon is becoming more and more insistent on the matter.”

Summary
“My apologies. Could I trouble you with some tea, Wriothesley? My throat has been itchy all day,” says Neuvillette quietly.
“Of course. I was about to brew some for myself. Please, take a seat. I won’t be long,” says Wriothesley as he gestures towards the couch.
The Iudex merely takes a few steps before he stumbles and drops his cane. Wriothesley sees him about to collapse and he hurries to his side, catching him in his arms just in time.
“Neuvillette!!” exclaims Wriothesley in a panic.
His panic only grows when he realizes that Neuvillette passed out. “Shit. Fuck,” seethes Wriothesley.

Neuvillette was so appalled that he pushed past the cowboy and began walking back towards the road with the intent of making his way on foot if he needed to.
“Relax, Neuvillette, I was teasing you! I didn’t mean to offend your delicate sensibilities,” Wriothesley said with amusement.
“You are a rascal! A boor!” exclaimed the Englishman with annoyance.

Summary
The pirate nodded and quickly left the cabin, leaving Wriothesley alone with the beautiful creature cowering from him. Wriothesley carefully stepped a bit closer and squatted in front of the silver-haired beauty, in arm’s reach. The latter was breathing so quickly now that the pirate captain feared he would hyperventilate. His gorgeous eyes were wide open with fear, and he was pushing himself against the wall, trying to put more distance between the two.
“I don’t know if ye can understand me, but don’t be scared, I won’t hurt ye,” said Wriothesley in a soothing voice.
The creature’s eyes were roaming all over his face, but he did not give any indication that he could understand his words. He seemed still as wary of Wriothesley, weakly tugging at his restraints to try to free himself.

Captain Wriothesley was used to how eventful life could be on the high seas. He had seen his fair share of wonders over the years sailing across the ocean with his crew of pirates, but nothing could have prepared him for the day he would stumble across a wounded and captive merman.
