Summary
Peter Barnes has spent the last fifteen years scraping by in the South Side. Steve’s voice breaks as he accepts the shield, a fragment of a broken memory from his past, with its familiar weight grounding his floating mind.
His two realities are converging in a spectacular explosion, and as they crash together, he can barely keep his hands from shaking. Bucky held this shield mere moments before he plummeted to his death.
Steve pushes the leather casing aside to run his fingers over the smooth metal, and he can almost feel the ghost of Bucky’s touch lingering there. Wind whips his face, a metallic screech assaults his ears, and a bone-chilling cry of desperation makes his stomach churn.
