Summary
Mike lets out a frustrated groan and knocks his head back against the seat—like Hopper’s the one being cryptic here.
Mike’s voice cracks slightly when he repeats, “He hurt Will.” More urgent this time. More desperate.
“Okay. I get that,” Hopper says slowly. “But it doesn’t explain why—”
Mike cuts him off, sharp. “If Will didn’t tell you, then I’m not telling you.”

Summary
“Stoned Mike Wheeler seems a bit confused.”
“That’s not the weed. It’s you,” he stated. “I’m always a bit confused when you’re near me.”
Will sighed, passing a hand through his hair.
"Definitely don’t say that when he’s around.”
“Who? Cartoon?”
“His name is Carlton,” he reprimanded, fighting a smirk. Mike smiled and let his head finally fall on Will’s leg.

Summary
“We—“ Dustin started, but Mike rudely cut him off. “You didn’t come to school today, Will, we were worried something happened”.
Will smiled again, “I'm okay guys, really.”
He shared a look with his mom, "I just…couldn’t come today, something came up."
Will was lying, obviously he was. Mike saw the way he blinked through the entire confession, eyes darting every which way, a dead give away he's picked up along the years.

Summary
He hears the distant creak of the basement stairs. And then the door, and the cautious footsteps that follow. And he turns over his shoulder, water cup still in hand, to find exactly who he knew he would find.
Mike Wheeler, standing in the shadows of his own home like he doesn’t belong there.
Instantly, that familiar pain reappears, shooting right to Will’s sternum as he’s pinned under Mike’s piercing stare. Half-hearted concern, and confusion, and care, all shining from those dark, soulful eyes. “Hey,” Mike says, tentatively.
Will thinks about walking away. Strongly considers it, in fact. But his momentary indecision has frozen him in place, and. Well. He’s never been especially good at ignoring Mike. And after the day they’ve had…
Will bites back as much bitterness as he can. (Which, it turns out, is not very much at all.) “Hey.”

"It's your first day," Karen tells him. "This is exciting! You'll make so many friends."
"You think so?" Mike asks nervously, his wide eyes staring at her.
"Absolutely."
Karen Wheeler doesn't condone lying to her children, but she believes white lies can be considered harmless. They won't remember, anyways. But if Karen was telling the truth to her son, she'd have to admit how she's actually desperately nervous about his compatibility with his classmates.
After school, when Mike is rambling about his new best friend, Karen decides that if Will Byers makes her son this happy, she'll do everything in her power to make sure they stay friends forever.
Or, Will and Mike's relationship through the eyes of their friends and family (plus their own). Will is nonspeaking autistic, and Mike is also autistic. Neurodivergent friendly fic with them falling in love!
