As she gets closer, Tim is immediately drawn to her wide brown eyes; they are broadcasting her emotional state for everyone to see — some combination of eager and excited and nervous. The polar opposite of the cool and guarded expression he is careful to keep on his own face.
Angela turns to look at him, clearly trying to gauge his reaction before she whacks him with her bouquet and hisses, “That is your soon-to-be wife, Tim, not your new boot, so maybe chill out with the death glare. You shouldn’t be trying to intimidate her.”
Tim ignores her; he begs to differ. This woman is supposed to be his wife. Chosen by supposed experts to be his life partner, his perfect other half. He is sure as hell going to be assessing whether she measures up to his standards. The fact that he already knows all of this is bullshit honestly just makes him that much more inclined to prove it.
When she reaches the end of the aisle, she stops in front of him and tilts her head to smile up at him in this sweet, hopeful way that he simultaneously finds incredibly endearing and incredibly irritating — like he holds her fate in his hands, and she is counting on him not to f*ck it up.

He remembers hauling Lucy outside for some air, her hand held tight in his as they stumbled onto the concrete of the strip.
He remembers being so enthralled by her as she laughed and danced down the sidewalk that he almost ran into a pole.
He remembers her hauling him inside of the chapel, less than a few blocks from their hotel.
(“I just want to watch, Tim!” she’d cried, laughing and smiling as she’d tugged on their clasped hands, and he hadn’t been able to deny her anything in that moment.)
He remembers sliding the ring onto her finger and kissing her.

Tim doesn’t speak.
He can’t speak.
“So, um, they said I’m lucky I came in when I did. And… well, they’ve admitted me for more testing. They said that if it’s confined to my uterus then they can just do surgery and I’ll be fine. You know, other than losing the chance to ever have a family of my own. I guess that’s lucky, they said? But… if it’s spread…”
Tim swallows hard, his eyes never leaving hers as she speaks.
He can see the tears in her eyes. She’s stubbornly refusing to let them fall, because she’s one of the strongest women he’s ever known, but he sees them and he hates what they represent.
“If it’s spread I’m just really, really fucked.”

Summary
“To the end of the world,” Lucy murmurs, and she doesn’t know if it’s the look in his eyes, the desperation of the moment, or the knowledge that the world might be ending and they may never get another chance that propels them forward.
Tim smirks, her heart thunders in her chest, and she takes a single step closer to him.
“Whenever that may be,” he says, and then he’s raising the glass to his lips and taking a long swig. Lucy mirrors the movement and then licks her lips, the tequila burning down her throat as Tim stares at her, his own lips wet with the whiskey he’s clutching in his hand.
“Tim,” she breathes, because despite the fact that he hasn’t let her be afraid yet, she is a little bit.
“Lucy,” he murmurs.
She doesn’t know who moves first, just that, later, it keeps her up at night.

She imagines all of the milestones — the doctor’s appointments, finding out her pants don’t fit anymore, feeling their baby kick, the baby’s birth — and she’s so fucking uninterested in doing it alone that she fumbles for her phone, firing a quick text off to Tim before laying down.
