This wasn't an uncommon occurrence, really—though it happened more often than either of them would have liked. One of them would somehow spark an argument, they would go back and forth, stubbornness fighting against passive aggression, snarkiness fighting against pride. Then, Kaveh would have had enough of it, and he would either leave to his room or go right out the door, straight to the tavern to drink his thoughts away for the night.
And no matter what, either he would come back home on his own, or Alhaitham would go retrieve him. One way or another, he would always come back home.

Summary
The weeks following the 'Irminsul-burning-down-and-nearly-destroying-the-timeline' event continue as Sumeru City rebuilds from the chaos Il Dottore caused. Kaveh becomes immersed in the process of reconstruction with his usual vigour, spending days working under ragebait (from both Alhaitham and clients), blueprints, discussion, and fatigue.
When he eventually makes his way back home after only a couple of sleepless hours, he finds himself facing the inside of the house.
More precisely, The decorative scroll he thought was lost during the Fatui break-ins somehow makes its way back.
And the normally INFURIATINGLY calm Alhaitham who looks exhausted.
