Summary
This is a collection of stories about individual people within the greater story of the Civil War. Often, we hear about the brave generals, and the glorious battles, and we can forget that the people involved were humans. They were afraid, and they continued despite it. They showed kindness, and they helped each other.
Individual content warnings will be in the beginning notes of every story.

I couldn’t stop thinking about the idea that some poor student doing research listened to Jon’s descent into madness via tape recorder, and I think it would be really funny if somewhere out there, a college student knows and loathes knowing the horrors of the archives.

Summary
As he stared down into the lumpy grey goop that was his evening rations, he contemplated whether it was really worth it.
They’d come a very long way just for Grace to give up and die at the last hurdle, both physically and emotionally. The Tau Ceti system was a long, long way away now, and Grace had faced not one but two highly emotional suicide missions. Three, if you counted the time before he was given a military grade roofie and hucked into space without his memories.
Rocky and Grace make it back to Erid! Huzzah!
Now they have to navigate all of... that.- Language:

Summary
The first time Peter Spankoffski meets Hatchetfield’s resident homeless man, he’s six years old.
No one’s ever said the man is dangerous, not really, but Peter’s smart, smart enough to know that if his mom and Teddy agree that he should stay away from someone, then he should listen. They never agree on anything.
Maybe that’s why, when the strange man in the brown coat attacks a goat right in front of Pete’s eyes, it doesn’t shock him quite as much as it does the other kids at the petting zoo.

Summary
"Marius… went straight to the library of the law-school and asked for the files of the Moniteur… all the memoirs, all the newspapers, the bulletins, the proclamations; he devoured everything. The first time that he came across his father’s name in the bulletins of the grand army, he had a fever for a week."

Summary
hawkeye gets caught in a wave of hemorrhagic fever and does what he can not to stop his entire internal monologue from spilling out whenever he opens his mouth, and maybe learns to appreciate the little things instead of needing to singlehandedly stop the war all the time
“‘Thanks, Major,’ he says, ‘I’m really doing fine. Just a hair’s breadth closer to death than I’d been…’ at which point he faints and collapses into Margaret’s arms. She bears his weight well, though after all he’s only a hundred and seventy pound fruitcake. In his last split second of consciousness all he can think is that he can’t believe he fell into her arms and not BJ’s.”
