Summary
It was just like his dad had said:
“I’m gonna die one day. Mom. Everyone. And you’re never gonna be ready for it.”
He had been right. Carl wasn’t ready.

Summary
“No no no no no!" Jason felt static start to collect in the air, sparks catching on his fingers as he pounded on the stranger's back. "Lupa!"
He knew the stranger could feel it too from the way they tensed. "Stop! Jason no!"
"Lupa!" Jason cried again, tears bubbling at his eyes. He felt the cold air around them go superheated, light brighter than anything he'd ever seen arcing down from the sky in an instant. The resounding crack echoed across the treetops, drowning out the stranger's scream as the light hit them dead on.

Summary
“No. You don’t get to do that.” Nico slammed a hand down on the papers. “You don’t get to shut yourself off. No one except Annabeth has talked to you in weeks, and that’s only to discuss temple plans.” Nico stepped closer into Jason’s space, forcing Jason to look at him.
Nico looked angry. His mouth flattened into a line and his eyes boring holes into Jason’s soul.
It hurt to look at.
Or: Jason hits his breaking point. Nico picks up the pieces.

Summary
Zanka had always had a particularly sensitive sense of smell, even as a child. It was something he was forced to hide as a Nijiku son, as this sensitivity didn't always work in his favour. Strong, heavy smells would linger in his head, making him dizzy and nauseous, until all he could think of was getting away from them, overstimulated and shaking. His family had seen it as a point of weakness, though it often felt to him that every part of himself was a potential weakness growing up.

He remembers when Zanka grew up. When he began his training and grasped the expectations placed on him. He remembers his little brother no longer needing him.
Goka reminisces about his little brother, and what they used to mean to each other.

Summary
Zanka has failures and hurts stacked up high, like poorly-filled crates in constant disarray he just can't line up right. It's disappointing. He's disappointing. But eventually, maybe he won't be, if he keeps trying.
If trying's all he can do.

Summary
Mike has finally made it as an author. But writing about your own past can get complicated, especially when fans start to draw conclusions that point Mike in the direction of the person he's been writing about all along.
And living life is hard. Especially when you're doing it all on your own. But grief and love are a lot more similar than you might realise. They both tend to wake us up from the monotony of our lives.
OR: Mike has a horrible time, which somewhere along the way turns into a wonderful time.
