Life is going good for Eric Bittle. It's summer, he has an exciting new job with the Providence Falconers, he's in a club celebrating with his friends, and he currently has a Canadian Adonis grinding up against his ass. Life is good.
Until said Canadian Adonis flees the morning after some mind-blowing sex, leaving behind a rubbish note. Bitty tries hard to forget about him and his huge, pert ass and focus on his new job, but then Canadian Adonis and the Falc's grumpy, anti-social captain turn out to be one and the same. "Yeah," he says. "There were." He wants to ask if there were any nice women at McGill, or any nice babies at the hospital. Ilya's hand is on Shane's thigh, thumb riding just on the edge of acceptable positioning for lunch with his parents. He squeezes. "But none of them were Ilya."
Shane meets a nice man in Montreal. It changes less than you'd think.

But David is good and beautiful in a world that is so often neither, and she wanted to be his family. Even after he knocked her up by accident in a blasted out, prewar apartment hallway. Even after he convinced her she wanted to keep it. Him. To keep Shane.
Convince sounds mean. It didn’t take much at all, really. But Yuna has been alone for most of her life. The father whose name she threw away and the mother who gave her her sharp edges have been gone for so long she can’t remember their faces. Marrying David was one thing. A son was another, entirely.
(Yuna Hollander has raised a young man in the middle of a wasteland. He is so like her, and sometimes he feels like a stranger.)
