For a moment, nothing happens. Then, about thirty seconds later, Ilya blinks once, then again, his expression tightening as confusion slowly takes over, trying to make sense of something that’s supposed to be impossible. Shane immediately knows that he’s freaking out.

“What the fuck?” Ilya yells, as he jerks back like he’s been burned, his hand ripping away from Shane’s ankle. His irises dart left to right crazily, locked in on Shane’s face as he searches for something. Shane stays silent. “What the fuck was that?”

The crux of the matter is that it’s optics, really, when push comes to shove. The league wants more eyes on the rink, his mother thinks that opening up his branding could be good for him as he gets older, and the magazine wants to do a whole fucking spread on omega advancements in the workplace.
Shane gets that. He does. He, even somewhat easily, understands that—he’s been a voice for omegas since he was fourteen and presenting, already locked into hockey with all the viciousness of a spurned, heatbroken omega.
OR: Shane & Ilya get booked to do a modeling shoot for the famed softcore porn magazine SHIVER. It's much bigger news, though, just how close the two of them actually are.
