Naruto lost everyone he’d ever loved and didn’t think he could feel anything beyond the desire to complete his mission. He didn’t expect this new (old) Konoha, with new friends wearing familiar faces from his decimated past. He didn’t expect to care so deeply about random jounin he’d barely known before. It changes everything about who he identifies with, who he wants to grow up to be, and who he thinks he is. Instead of having James Potter as his idol, Lily turns out to be a much better influence.
So instead of seeing a scruffy, most-likely-muggleborn boy standing beside him in Madam Malkin's before their first year, Draco only has eyes for the scarlet-haired, green-eyed creature who just walked into his life. Summary
Harry's 5th year was probably the worst year of his life. First Voldemort happened, then Umbridge, then Voldemort AGAIN, and then Sirius died. Harry doesn't even have the time to properly mourn Sirius before he's shipped back to the Dursley's for the summer. He can't even think straight and with each passing day since losing Sirius, Harry feels more and more exhausted. By the time his 16th birthday rolls around, Uncle Vernon has to literally beat Harry just to wake him up.
After a rather brutal beating given to him by his uncle on the eve of his birthday, Harry wakes to find something he had never thought possible. He wakes up to find a long snake tail instead of his legs. A few days later, his family abandons him in some random forest.
What a wonderful way to start his 16th year of life after the worst year of his life.

"Hello, Chris," sings a honeyed voice from behind.
Chris' attention snaps toward the intruder, his gun already out of its' holster and aimed at whoever it is — a boy, apparently, with braided russet hair, a red jacket, and wise eyes. He's wearing a gas mask, but Chris can tell by the way his eyes crinkle around the edges, the way sun-burnt sand swirls in his irises, that he's smiling.
Chris cocks his gun.
"You killed my father," he says.
"No offence, but he totally deserved it," the stranger agrees with cheerful solemnity.
"What the hell are you doing in my home?" Chris demands. The kid is perched on a windowsill in Chris' office, as nonchalantly as if this were something he did every day, as if they were familiar.
"I was just wondering," the kid speaks softly, fond amusement sewn through with a peculiar resignation, "how you'd feel about putting down some nazis?"
