Elrond seeks Círdan's comfort after the Tree has been healed, wanting to lose himself in woodwork. Círdan tries to help Elrond before darkness blinds them all.
"My mother jumped from a cliff holding a jewel more precious to her than the children she bore in her own womb. If such a jewel can overcome a mother's love, what is to say these rings cannot overcome a similar purity with terrible darkness?"
Círdan sighed. Elrond was right, jewels had beauty and beauty held power unimaginable."
