Summary
An terrible plight has devasted the small city of Goldenfields. When a group of adventurers decide they could do with a bit of extra coin, and a nice road trip, they are hired to take care of the problem.
This is a retelling of a D&D one shot I played a couple years ago, DM'd by my wonderful cousin. Enjoy!

“Can I give you some serum so you can be a pigeon tonight?” Walter spills, eyes pleading, mouth twisting into a pout as he cranes his neck to look pitifully up at him.
Lance stares, sort of offended. It wasn’t what he was expecting, though he’s not sure there was an expectation in the first place. Not really, he has no idea what Walter is ever talking about most of the time. “What?! Why? Boy, I swear, you like me better as a bird than a man. You’re always trying to get me to—”
“I don’t—I don’t like you better,” Walter slurs, rolling into his back to stubbornly stare at the ceiling. He’s wearing his apron, still, and the frills bunch around his pink face like a Shakespearean collar. “It’s not that.”

“You always come to me—or I guess, ask me to come to you… I didn’t know if I was allowed to start things,” Deep looked away from Homelander's questioning gaze and cleared his throat weakly.
“I—I don’t… that’s not…” Homelander drifted off, mind wandering back over the past months he had spent with Deep. Low and behold, Deep was right.
It was always him turning to the weaker man. Never once had Deep initiated any of the time they spent together. It was a chilling realization, to think he—the Homelander—had been seeking out all the affection. Others were supposed to come to him, crawl to him—but somehow the roles were reversed. He always went running to Deep. Homelander wanted to be angry over this epiphany, but strangely he wasn't. It was… oddly comforting to think that he had found something—someone—that he could go to unwaveringly. He had never had that, at least not without it being inspired by fear of death.
