    “Houston, do you copy?”

    Caitlyn panicked, feeling extraordinarily unprepared having been thrust into her new position without so much as even a handbook to consult. What were the formalities? What was she supposed to respond with? Where was the damn push to talk button…

    “Hellooo? I said Houston, do you copy?”

    Caitlyn fiddled with her headset, having finally found the green button on the side and hastily letting out a rather breathless reply. “Um, yes. Hello? This is Houston. I copy.”

    There was a long pause in which Caitlyn sat twiddling her thumbs, anxiety pushing the frantic pulse of her heartbeat through her eardrums. Was that wrong? Did she already fuck up? She took a steady deep breath, finger hovering over the talk button until the familiar voice of the astronaut came through her headset once more.

    “Damn, Houston. I didn’t expect you to sound so sexy.”

    OR

    Caitlyn has been assigned as the personal capcom to one of the astronauts currently on a year long expedition at the international space station. Cue long months of pining and desperate longing.

    “Before I turn the floor over to our curators,” Silco droned in that monotone voice he used when he was director mode, “I want to first take the time to introduce our new Events Coordinator. As you all know, this position has been open for far too long, which has caused undue strain on everyone in management.”

    The last coordinator, Decker, had been caught doing shimmer behind the aquarium. Vi wasn’t exactly sympathetic to the rich, snooty-ass upper management that had to put in a smidge of extra effort. They did a shit job, anyways—the fall festival had the worst attendance on record.

    Silco gestured to the tall, lanky figure that was currently blocking Vi’s view of the podium. “I hope you will join me in welcoming Caitlyn Kiramman to our zoo!”

    Vi clocked the last name immediately, and so did everyone at the table.

    In which Jinx fucks with Vi by signing her up to work the Christmas festival with Caitlyn. As much as Vi wants to hate her, there's something about Caitlyn that makes that impossible.

    Jinx and Ekko have been friends ever since high school, the two of them bonding for several things. Growing up in the same neighborhood, loving the same music, etc. They were just able to get along well, surprising everyone. Ekko was more benevolent, sticking to his studies and his art. Jinx is louder and more bold, getting into trouble only for Ekko to save her. No one understood each other better than they did, no one could save the other out of a rut better than they did. They were soulmates.
    So when they go to the same college, that friendship of theirs continues to grow strong. Well, until they both go to a party and after a couple drinks, hook up with each other. It's bound to complicate the friendship, right? But Jinx had a solution to help them both so they won't feel so guilty. And so they come to an agreement: to be friends with benefits. They fuck but still maintain their friendship, allowing themselves to see other people. And it starts off great, for a short while.
    But it's really only a matter of time before it turns into a complete disaster.
