Summary
L knows that Light Yagami is guilty. And he is forced to accept that he will never be able to prove it.
So, just this once, he decides to break his principles and go above the law. He kidnaps Light and takes him to Wammy's house.
He's sure that having the kids interact with a real-life mass murderer will be a very educational experience indeed.
Or: Light is Kira, L is sick of how easily manipulated the police are, and he secretly wants to see what will happen if he forces Light into a domestic situation with children just as intelligent as he is.

Summary
In a moment of paranoid clarity, Light makes arrangements to ensure he won’t fall to Near’s trap by temporarily giving up the notebook. Unfortunately for him, the way that Light Yagami thinks under the Death Note’s influence is very different from the way that Light Yagami thinks absent the Death Note. Proven innocent but plagued by doubt, he inevitably stumbles upon the traces his dark alter ego left behind and rediscovers his terrible secret. Opening the door for his demons to swallow him whole.
‘Let’s just say this: you will feel the fear and pain known only to humans who’ve used the notebook. Be warned: any human who’s used a Death Note can neither go to heaven or hell for eternity.’
Light makes his own personal hell on earth.
