Summary
The crux of it is something small, the choice to leave and save himself or stay and offer protection to those too vulnerable to protect themselves. Scott knew that the choice would change him, no matter which he decided to do, that it meant everything for who he would become.
He chose to stay, and it meant everything and nothing. He chose to hold onto the pieces of him that remembered being human, being a protector.
He didn't know that it was more than just his future hanging in the balance.

Scott chooses to care back in the beginning, before he ever saw Oakhurst or met any of the people who would eventually be there. It makes all the difference but changes very little. At first.

Summary
Grian liked to think that he had mentally closed the book on all things TommyInnit. Unfortunately, things don't work that way, not for him, not when his past has always been hovering on the edges of his awareness, waiting for a moment to rush back in.
Really, the only thing Grian has been doing in the year since Tommy died has been running from everything he didn't want to confront. He forgot that when you're running from something, it means they have the chance to catch up.

Summary
The rift, while eventually settling into a cooled, inactive state, still radiates leftover energy — Xisuma had told him that it was nothing to worry about, so Grian didn’t pay it much mind, not after everything between Hermitcraft and Empires had settled.
Weeks later, the rift spits out one last body.
Evil Xisuma had been banished to the void for an indefinite sentence. He didn’t expect an early unintentional release, one that he didn’t facilitate but knows he would reap the consequences for. He wants to run, but how long would that last? He can’t leave the server, but… surely there’s something he can do, right?
Turning yourself into a cat and finding peace in a feline retirement from villainy wasn’t his plan, but he can’t say he regrets it.
