Regulus Black didn’t always hate his brother. Regulus had wanted to protect him and promised that he would. He did, does, yet Sirius hated him for it. At first, Regulus was confused—worried even—but eventually spite took over. A hatred nurtured by his mother, who was all too ready to turn it on him should he disappoint her expectations. But Regulus will always keep his promises, even if it kills him, so he stays. He bears the burden and takes responsibility for the bastard’s mistakes.
But suddenly everything changes. Suddenly it’s Remus’s birthday and Regulus finds the sun, the largest star in the sky, at night. Or maybe it was just the first time Regulus let himself see the sun. But that doesn’t really matter when a virus is tearing the world apart and undead are running around eating and turning people, does it? All that matters in the end is who survives. And those who don’t are nothing but memories to be forgotten, lest they haunt you in your weakness.
