Makino doesn’t think she’ll ever stop being afraid of storms. Or rather- not a storm in and of itself, but of the potential danger it bears, especially out on the open sea. And not even the danger posed to her, really; she is perfectly capable of swimming, of keeping her head above water long enough to reach a boat, or dry land.
The three boys she’s become responsible for have no such ability anymore.

Call it any number of things, fate, luck, sheer fucking coincidence, but he’s in the right place at the right time to catch someone hollering about Gold Roger’s son being put up for sale.
Even if it’s all a pack of lies, no kid deserves the fate that’s coming from being a look-alike with Roger. Shanks finds his feet moving of their own accord, the whole world narrowing to just this thin, insipid man, beaming from ear to ear as he talks about an auction for a child.
“What,” Shanks drawls in his best ‘Saint Fearsome Figarland’ voice, “Is this nonsense?”

Summary
In another universe, another time, things go just a bit differently, and Donquixote Rosinante lives, albeit seriously injured and bedridden.
But with his son refusing to speak until he gets news of the boy he'd left behind, Sengoku is forced to locate a child who turns out to be far more trouble than he was expecting before Rosinante's reticence gets him court-martialed, or worse. Hiding a precocious child with a legendary devil fruit is hard enough. Hiding one marked for death by World Government order is another thing entirely. Doing it at Marineford itself? That's just the height of folly. And yet, this is what Sengoku finds himself doing in order to keep the peace.
