"Your hair, your clothes, even your voice was different. I tried to rationalize it at first, but we couldn't recognize you. We weren't sure there was any part of you that they hadn't gotten to yet."OR: instead of Clancy escaping as from Dema as it happens in the Saturday mv, the banditos rescue him from the city again. he doesn’t come back quite right though.

If knowing you is a spear, Clancy writes in a haze, pen spilling black pools of ink at the start of the letters, then loving you is the wound. And the spear may leave the confines of my body, but you best believe I keep on bleeding.

Summary
Clancy’s feet pound into the earth, no longer bothering with silence. An eerie parallel comes to mind as he chases. Had he looked like this, a bleeding, doomed animal?
Disgust burns in his fingers. Had he truly been this pathetic? Clancy wouldn’t be that anymore, no, he’d never let himself be weak like that again.
Torch stares at the boy before him, covered in red, chest heaving. He can’t look away, can’t pull his eyes from it’s beauty. His beauty. Raw emotion covers him, undeniable in its strength.
When their eyes meet, Torch thinks he can name it. Unadulterated craving.

Clancy escaped Dema in search of something safe. Lost and wounded in the wilderness, he’s found by Torchbearer, his savior. Leader of a bizarre group, Torch will do anything to keep him safe. All Clancy really wanted was to be held, so who cares if the hands are blood stained? How can he judge when he’s just as steeped in it too?

The Bishops established a near-perfect system in Dema. Routine, monotony, and structure, it all works to numb the citizens, while Vialism breeds devotion and desire for Glory through means of self-destruction. It’s almost perfect, but a few still slip through the cracks.
One citizen sees Vialism as a means to an end. A way to escape the slot she’s been put in, to find some semblance of comfort in her short life. Another sees it as a burden — a duty placed on his shoulders by a higher power he barely understands. But one thing they agree on is that the Concrete City isn’t their home, but their prison. And someone on the outside is trying to light the way for escape.

Summary
Clancy of Dema was born to die. His purpose was determined by the knife placed into his infant hand, promised to the priests of Vialism that rule the Sacred Municipality, like all others who shelter within its walls. He does not fear purpose. Why would he? Life's kingdom is nothing but grey walls and a certainty that he will always be incomplete.
There are poems written on his bedposts. Melodies turning over in the bus engines. Choruses whispered in his footsteps. They, too, are incomplete, but they are anything but grey. The hum of wonder haunts Clancy.
And beyond the walls of Dema shines a yellow star.
