Summary
I spent my first year here in Thedas, in a world I know from video games I first played during the pandemic lockdown, trying to get back home. Well, okay, no. I spent the largest part of the first year alternately sobbing and staring into space in a Chantry hospice, having a fun little emotional and mental breakdown as all of the laws of reality as I know them were broken.
I spent the second year trying to get back. I searched out people I thought could help, but I couldn’t even get to Kirkwall. There’s only so many odd jobs you can do for money, and that money does not get you far in a post-Blight Ferelden. I managed to get enough coin and favor to barter for a message to be carried into Orlais. It would result in either my murder for being a threat or hopefully the formation of a powerful acquaintance, but as no reply ever came, I lost hope.
I have spent the last two years resigned. I am not a Chosen One. I am an accident of fate or chance, and neither matters much when I’m gaunt from hunger and living in a drafty shack in one of the coldest places I’ve ever been to.

Summary

An adversary becomes a friend and a bulwark against a horror unleashed from across the sea. With not just Thedas but the entire world and the fate of all realms hanging in the balance, a desperate gambit is made. The last, best hope for reality itself is an attempt to gain more time to prepare by sending Rook back in time.
But the plan, as usual, goes a little sideways. Good thing Rook's figured out how to think outside of straight lines.

It’s the small things.
She would have had his admiration regardless, of course. The way she laughs; a bright burst of light illuminating their dark days. Determination and an iron will to not just survive, but to thrive. The board is stacked against them, but Ellery Courin never flinches. Her voice, her quick rapier; all of it carries them inexorably forward, despite complaints and moments of weakness and flat-out exhaustion. Ellery carries them through. Sometimes it is gentle, sometimes she cajoles and pokes and prods, and one memorable time wrestled Lae’zel into submission when the Githyanki got a little too mouthy.
Little wonder they’re all half in love with her.

A slow burn novelization of Lucanis and Rook falling in love that will follow the events of the game, with some unique twists of my own. Plenty of angst and tension, with plans for lots of comfort and fluff later on. Some of the cutscenes from the game will be included, but the majority will be events that take place outside of those. The first chapter takes place just before the Big Decision in Act 1, after the coffee date.
