    Shane finds out on Twitter.

Not from a lawyer or a teammate or even one of the journalists who've been calling nonstop since the FanMail video went viral. He finds out at 6:47 am, still in bed, that Russia is coming for Ilya. Propaganda charges. Passport revocation. Return to the Russian Federation required.

What follows is weeks of watching everything fall apart. Ilya's career. Their safety. The system that was supposed to protect them. Shane keeps playing while Ilya can't. The lawyers file paperwork and say to wait. Montreal demands silence.

Shane faces a choice: keep his head down and trust the process, or burn down his career and force the world to pay attention.

    He chooses fire.

    Bookmarker's Notes

If the Minister's Office reviewed his file and shrugged it off, Shane would be out of a job, and Ilya's situation still as grim. The worst part was, Shane would swear he'd made the right call either way.

But Ilya would know better, and he'd have to live with that.

During their Monday session, Galina listened to the same things he'd been telling her for weeks, the guilt, the waiting, the fear, and she said, "You are doing it again."

    "What?"

"Treating Shane's choices as your responsibility. His agency as your burden."

"He made those choices because of me."

"He made them because of who he is," she said. "There is a difference. You did not make him stand up in front of cameras. He decided that was what he was willing to do. Taking ownership of that decision away from him is its own kind of disrespect."

    Summary

After Alexei walks in on Sasha hitting on Ilya at the gala in Sochi, he does the most predictable - but terrifying - thing: he blackmails Ilya Rozanov, on the threat of telling Russia, and their father, the truth about Ilya's sexuality.

It's a good thing that a very helpful, boring Canadian with gorgeous freckles offers to help him defect from Russia, in the most insane way possible: through marriage. To him.

Or, Shane and Ilya do their relationship completely out of order. And, they realize later, they wouldn't have it any other way.

“Honestly, dude, you’re fucking handling this like a champ.”
He’s not. He’s handling it the way he has to, the only way there is to handle it. “Well, I am champ, so.”
    Marlow chuckles.
He sounds like he’s about to say something else heartfelt and misinformed, so Ilya flicks on the radio.

How did he let this happen?

    Shane's not sure.

One moment, he was on the gym floor not staring at Rozanov's gorgeous sweaty body. Then Shane was standing up, but his legs were weak for some god forsaken reason and Rozanov was there, just an arm around his waist to keep him upright, and now...

    Well.

Now Shane's on his knees on the floor of Ilya Rozanov's shower.

    Summary

So Shane Hollander is, how do you say in English, a dirty little thief. A clothing thief, to be precise. Ilya can't say he saw that coming, but he also can't pretend he's all that mad about it.

His shirt looks good on his Shane. On Shane. On Hollander.

Right. His shirt looks good on Hollander.
