Dr. Robby was almost at the end of his shift. It had been a quiet day at the Pitt, but just as the eleventh hour of his shift began, the phone rang.
“Level One trauma in ten minutes. SWAT operator with a gunshot wound”At first, Robby didn’t think much of it, but when the ambulance doors swung open, the first thing he saw was the camouflage uniform, then far too much blood, and freckles.

Summary
There was weight to the words that Jack felt: he’d been there, been in the place where tired was the only word he could use even as he stared into the void and wondered what non-existence would be like. Used tired to both tell the world how ready he was to go and brush off the concern of those around him.
Felt so much bone-weary exhaustion that Robby had followed him home, curled up around him in his bed, and held him through the worst part of grief.
He hated tired.
(Robby's been denying himself headspace for entirely too long. Jack's done watching him struggle.)

Summary
The story told to children was simple: one day, you would find the person who shares the same soulmark as you. Once you find them, you are complete. You have the person the universe knows is perfect for you in every way. The search is over and happily ever after begins. But reality is never so simple.
Jack and Robby have both met their soulmates and know they aren't each other. Jack's has passed away and Robby's was an abuser he escaped. But 'ever after' doesn't end just because a soulmate is gone. And 'happily' can still be in the cards if you choose it.

Robby was so focused on asking him questions that he didn't much pay attention as Brandon led the way inside, past the bouncers and through a dark doorway, the low beat of sensual music rising as they entered. Which meant that Jack got the unparalleled joy of watching Robby as he pulled up short just inside, his eyes widening as he took in the stage, the glittering lights, the gleaming poles, and the parade of half-naked women on display. "What the fuck," he muttered, not a question.
"Oh, have you not heard of Lola's? It's all the rage," Jack said innocently, trying to control his grin.
Robby locked onto him, expression going stormy. "Et tu, Brute?"
