Two years in, there's a sharp crackle and pain shoots up his arm, causing him to sit up with a gasp. Holding his arm close, Mahanon brushes the hair out of his face and looks down to see the angry glow of the Anchor grinding and pulsing, the intensity of the magic lighting up old scars down his wrists.
This is it then, he thinks with grim acceptance.
