Drifter stares at him again with something other than mindless hunger in his piercing eyes. The Doorman might call it curiosity. He takes another step, testing the waters.

"I didn't say I'd make it easy."
The loathsome creature laughs and oh, yes, that’s the word he was looking for. Creature.
"Damn good thing I like to play with my food then."
Two hours before the second maelstrom hits, the Doorman finds himself alone with a hungry vampire.

The neon lights of the Baronesses hotel, a beacon to those seeking respite from the cold, flickered just outside the window of her least luxurious room. Optimization is V1’s specialty. From projectile punching to explosion-propelled feats of acceleration, V1 was made to make itself better: faster. To achieve maximum performance, it opts to optimize its energy usage. A more efficient source of biofuel may exist—but V1 needs a means to extract it. A particular peripheral used by Mindflayers seems promising.
V1 intends to test it on Gabriel. There must be something better than blood.
