The team hasn’t let up with that particular gag since they received their jerseys freshman year. It only worsened, once Shauna presented as an alpha, and Jackie presented as an omega. At first, everyone was surprised at how their winning captain turned out, and after that, they were just amused. Fate was basically forcing her and Shauna into being a living punch line.
OR:
Jackie knows she isn’t supposed to see Shauna during a rut, but after days of worrying, she makes a visit to Shauna’s house. A not-unpredictable amount of sex ensues.

Then the girl goes up. Shauna's hands grip the boards. The rotation (more than one? more than two?) is so fast and so controlled it reminds her of the dreidels she spun as a kid, that same impossible stillness at the center of something moving too fast to follow. The girl lands it clean.
She keeps moving. Falls on the next one. The woman (her coach?) doesn't react. The girl gets up, grumbles a soft "fuck" under her breath, and she's moving again. She looks at Shauna. Just for a second. She looks away, saying nothing, so Shauna goes to the bar and sits down where she can watch without being watched herself.

Her father stops carving his roast beef to meet Jackie’s eyes while her mother frowns slightly. Jackie shifts a little, uncomfortable under the sudden attention, wondering how she has survived eighteen years of those same awkward silences after saying anything that would be overanalyzed and, half the time, turned against her.
“Why?”
