“Baby, are you stress baking?” she asks, pressing her mouth to Carson's pulse.
“Maybe a bit,” Carson admits. “I just want the edition to be good. It’s only my second since I got the promotion.”
“And you’re doing great,” Greta soothes easily. Her palms slide against Carson’s stomach, her nose pressed into her hair. Carson shivers, leaning back against her before she can help herself.
“Greta…” she murmurs, a little warning, a little wanting.
“Do you think you want to relieve some stress?” Her lips skate over the shell of Carson’s ear.

Summary
Carson doesn’t know the woman’s name. She doesn’t want to. She leaves it to Greta to manage, make sure they are clean, agree to be treated a certain way and know they won’t get much care afterwards. That’s the deal.
And Carson takes them. Hard. All while Greta watches helplessly. She denies Greta until Carson decides she is ready.

Summary
When Greta’s voice streams through the church, breaking Carson out of her trance, she realizes she does know what it’s like to worship. To devote oneself to a higher cause, a purpose beyond the personal. Haloed by every prismatic hue where she stands in front of stained glass, a silhouette of sin and scripture all at once, Greta is holy in this moment, she is the God that Carson understands. The theology of Greta is one that Carson gets.
Carson is not godless any longer with Greta beside her. Greta is her refuge, her asylum, the only sanctuary Carson knows for sure. Greta’s body is her church and Carson is always ready to bow at the steps.
