He had watched Olivia complain her way through every winter they worked together, muttering about crime scenes in February and stakeouts where the heat in the sedan took too long to kick in, glaring at the wind like it had chosen her personally.
Maybe she likes the cold now. Maybe that is one of the hundred small, ordinary things that changed about her over the past decade, the kind of thing he would notice had he been there to watch it happen.
He takes his jacket from the rack by the door and pulls it on without looking away from her. Then he opens the glass door and steps out into the cold.

Summary
Olivia is a young single mother of Noah Porter Benson. She got pregnant in college and decided to keep the baby delaying her rise in the ranks a bit. She is currently a cop but hoping to move up and become a Detective, specifically an SVU Detective because of the circumstances of her birth.
Elliot comes from a family of police officers but chose a different path for himself much to his Father's chagrin. He is a firefighter and loves what he does but always in the back of his mind wonders if he made the right choice by following his own dreams and not his Father's. He's always dreamed of having a family of his own but has been unlucky and fallen for all the wrong girls who don't want what he wants.
What happens when Olivia and Elliot meet at a Fundraiser for the NYPD/FDNY competition one July day? The 'rivalry' between the departments is alive and well but will the undeniable spark between them lead to crossing some boundaries? Will Olivia be ready to let a man in not only around her heart but around her son who has never had a Father figure to look up to?
