Summary
"What are you thinking, Shane?" Ilya asked softly.
"I still don't understand why you're doing this." Shane blurted, "You're going to get me a new job and give me things. Why?"
Ilya's answer was immediate, "Because I want to." He said this with the complete and total arrogance of someone who, in general, always got what he wanted.

Summary
Ilya Rozanov liked control, simply put.
Nothing wrong there. Nothing to speak of.
This, however, wasn’t just being specific about something as mundane as coffee— black with a double shot of espresso, no sugar, no cream, and cooled down enough to not burn, but still enough to sting— or how Ilya had to stack dollar bills face up and corners touching. It wasn’t anything like the fixed order of silverware in Ilya’s kitchen drawer, or the shoes lined with precision by the rug in his hallway, or even like the hockey jerseys organized in his closet by player, size, and season.
Shane Hollander wasn’t an inanimate object Ilya could control with his hands alone; Shane needed words that remained just beyond Ilya’s reach.
