"John?" Staying where he was, Bob stared right into John's eyes. Sometimes he couldn't read what John was thinking, but this time Bob could. In those bright blue eyes Bob loved so much, there was a shimmer of fear, pain, and sadness that weighed down John.
"Bobby," John said, even his voice sounded awful, extra rough and cracking. "I…fuck. It's- its…I…fuck I need to hug you please I have to, I need to know that you're real and alive."
Late one night John comes to Bob's apartment seeking comfort from his intrusive thoughts.

"Bob needed me," Sentry responded. There were mutterings and curses at Valentina. He wasn't going to explain more than that. "Now, where's John?"

“Nick... Nicholas... Nick, Nico... Nico,” Vash blabbers, resting his head against Wolfwood’s shoulder. He’s at risk of falling off the bar stool, but he is too drunk to care.“Why’re you callin’ me that,” Nicholas huffs, “and I’m, uh, I’m right here. You don’t gotta say it over and over.” His face is flushed, a soft pink under his tanned skin.
“You’re handsome,” Vash blurts, stupidly pressing his hand into Wolfwood’s face in effort to push the hair off his forehead. It doesn’t really work. He freezes for a moment, and then laughs, “I didn’t mean to say that out loud.”

Vash has always been beautiful. In the sun and in the moonlight, covered in blood and freshly clean, smiling or crying. He’s beautiful like this, too—this other version of him with the too-sad eyes and hollow smiles that chip pieces out of Wolfwood’s chest.
