    ​Before he could take a sip of his cocoa, his bedroom window was abruptly banged open. A girl with short black hair, combat boots, and an expensive gothic dress climbed over the sill, looking thoroughly annoyed.
    ​"Fenton, you're going to Gotham," Sam Manson announced, crossing her arms.
    ​Danny blinked, a blob ghost peeking out of his sleeve. "Good morning to you too, Sam. And no, I'm not. Gotham is creepy, wet, and full of guys who dress like bats."
    ​"Too bad," Sam said, holding up two gold-embossed invitation cards. "My parents are forcing me to attend the Wayne Enterprises Charity Gala this weekend. And since I refuse to suffer through high-society small talk alone, you are coming as my date. Besides, you look like a zombie. You need a break from Amity Park."
    ​Danny groveled, burying his face in his hands. The blob ghosts let out sympathetic chirps, patting his cheeks with their squishy bodies.
    ​"Trust me, Danny," Sam insisted, a smirk playing on her lips. "It's just a boring party. What's the worst that could happen?"
