Something had changed, this spring, and Nico found himself losing his grip to the material world, shifting into the shadows without meaning to, dropping objects and slipping through floors.
And that had been the bit Nico was less hung up on, too. What had been haunting him for the past few weeks is the discovery, made though exhausting trial and error, that the only things that helped keep him from disappearing completely were either direct sunlight, or, of course, Will Solace's ridiculous glow-in-the-dark healing powers.

(Was he the only one? Who feels like this when Will's skin glows against his? Like every hug, every kiss and every warm touch in the world is being gathered into one place, pressed against Nico's cheek and spreading into his body, drawing him breathless, weightless. Intoxicating, golden.)

Summary
Will wants to be Nico's friend. He wants to be Nico's friend so bad.
The problem is, since he's come to camp, since he was born, really, Will's been pretty bad at making friends.
When he was a kid, his best friend was his Mama. He could play games with her, and she'd teach him to sing songs, and they'd do his schoolwork on the bus. And he'd never have to be alone without her.
Since he'd gotten to camp, his friends have been his siblings. His best friends are his older brothers. They don't mind having a shadow, and he gets to learn from Michael and Lee and no one else bothers him because he can hide behind them and everyone knows not to mess with the Apollo cabin baby. It's a win-win.
But now, he needs to learn how to make a friend. On his own. So he comes up with a plan.

“Still not hearing the part that leads to you having to come get me, Lace,” Nico presses.
“Right, yes,” Lacy continues. “So he backed into one of our vanities, right. And it’s the Aphrodite cabin, so there are love potions and stuff lying around. And um. With them, you’re only supposed to use like, a drop or two? Because they make people confess true feelings, right? But uh, A vial fell from the top of the vanity when he backed into it, and it cracked and he uh, got hit in the head. With a full bottle of a love potion thing.”

Summary
Will Solace hasn’t slept in fifty-seven hours.
It’s fine. Really. He’s just mixing herbs he won’t explain, keeping the infirmary running, and lying to everyone, including Nico, about how close he is to breaking.
But exhaustion makes him sharp. One fight in the strawberry fields, one cruel sentence he doesn’t mean, and suddenly Nico is gone, shut behind a door Will can’t open, and maybe doesn’t deserve to. But silence doesn’t last forever and when it breaks, there’s still a choice to be made: to stay, to try again, to hold on even when it hurts.
