Jason's heart is tight, "I'm —"
Bruce places both hands on his shoulders, "Don't apologise. Just breathe with me."
Jason takes a deep breath in, matching Bruce's unshakeable calmness. It's the first time in a long time that Jason feels like he can actually breathe.
(Jason survives Ethiopia and returns home; this is the beginning.)

"Roy, this is stupid," Jason grumbles, yanking off his jacket and chucking it at the floor. Roy picks it up without missing a beat, putting it on the coat hanger where it belongs.
"No, Jason, this is necessary," Roy returns calmly. Jason wants to beat that patient expression off his face with a baseball bat. Or maybe a crowbar.
A growl builds low in his throat, and he pulls angrily at his chest harness.
"Calm the fuck down," Roy orders, Alpha command in his voice. Jason's growl quiets, then picks back up again twice as loud when Jason realizes Roy's affect on him. "And this is why you need to be on standby," Roy sighs.

Summary
See, not only does avoiding eating shrink one's appetite, it has an inverse effect. Consumption would lead to light nausea, the size of the meal converting directly to an equal level of sickness. So eating less became the only solution. One less bite everyday.
A normal human would be dead by now.
Jason should be dead by now.
Or
Jason stops getting hungry, he sees it as an advantage- until it becomes a weakness.
Oh yeah, and Tim is there to help him realize how fucking crazy that sounds.

(And so Olruggio forgets. And he inevitably figures it out again, because of course he does; and he inevitably chooses to forget again, and again, and again, because his heart is always the same. The story is always the same. Like a tale from under a silverwood tree, like a myth from the days of old, not so much tied by the constraints of the narrative so much as being narrative itself. Antigone must bury her brother. Iphigenia must be put to death. At a thousand turns, in a thousand ways, Orpheus must turn, and he must look, again, and again.
And Olruggio forgets.)
