It was a windy day, when the world stood still. The breeze came from the sea and they could tell because the smell of salt in the air reached even where they stood, at the highest point in the city, far from the waves.
It was almost ironic how much everything moved as they froze, like the universe was trying to let them know just how much impact that moment would have on their lives. As if it were giving them a warning, telling them they had only that exact moment to stop it all, to change what was coming. That they had reached the point of no return. It’s a shame they never even noticed.
