Sensing his approval Halsin caresses his face, fingers trailing Astarion’s lips. “You are a marvel.”
Astarion’s brows knit in confusion, this is not the reaction he had been expecting. “Well, yes, I know that my dear” he replies flippantly, waiting to see what the large wood elf would do next.
Halsin huffs out a short laugh, before stepping closer and continuing “most others would come out of that experience little more than a shell, yet you…. “, he pauses as he trails his fingers down Astarion’s neck, following the contours of his collarbones. “You managed to continue on, the strength of your will is…intoxicating.”

“Bad dream?”
You whipped around, the dagger you kept under your pillow aimed at the owner of the voice. Astarion chuckled, hands raised to show he was unarmed. You sighed and dropped your weapon.
“A really bad dream, then, or are you always so quick on the draw?”
You stay quiet and wipe the sweat off your brow and upper lip. There was a stream nearby… but the thought of being alone out here at night terrified you. Sleeping out in the open with another vampire mere feet away was bad enough.
But there was nothing else you could do now to distract your mind. Her eyes, her smile were burned into the forefront of your mind, taunting you, beckoning you back to her.

Astarion is not expecting the question, Halsin can tell by the way he jerks upright, spine straight, shoulders strong.
“Two-hundred-and-forty,” he answers without hesitation. “Give or take a few years.”
Halsin swallows, rewords his question. “How old were you when you were turned?”
Astarion goes quiet. Extremely, cacophonously quiet.
“Thirty-nine,” he finally says, a bolt straight into Halsin’s heart.
