Coming closer, Shae realised that the office door was slightly ajar, a slim pillar of warm light illuminating her last few steps. Without even realising it, she had been walking on tip toes, like she'd done as a little girl when her father had still been the one behind these walls. He'd never left the door open and there had always been at least one Green Bone in the corridor, who had sent her away with an exasperated sigh whenever they’d caught her trying to press an ear to the wood.
