Summary
The question of where gifts come from is a complete mystery. The gifted could certainly never answer such a question since there was no recollection of the beginning. It seems strange though it is presented that a gift was a sort of mutation in the individual that has one. Unaware that there is a reason that these abilities are labelled as 'gifts'. A hidden history that no one had ever thought of existing is waiting in hiding, apparently it is all in a single book. But there are things that will strive to keep the book hidden, no matter the cost.
(This follows the plot of BSD up to the point of season 3 with a touch of extras added in then will formulate into a new path after)

Aerion looked this so called ‘knight’ over, “You don’t look like a knight I’ve ever seen” he sneered. “What are you? Some sort of peasant knight?” he asked looking over Dunk’s less than stellar appearance; taking in the dirt on his clothes and his rope belt. Dunk flushed and looked down “My name is Ser Duncan the Tall, I am but a hedge knight my Prince, I hope to enter this tournament to make a name for myself and in the end pledge my allegiance to a great house who would have me” Aerion laughed cruelly at his response “You do know what this tourney is truly about right hedge knight?”
TLDR: Aerion has been a little shit and in a final act of desperation his parents (Baelor and Maekar) decided that who ever wins the Ashford tourney will also win his hand.

Summary
At age seven Baelor watched helplessly as his oldest brother was stolen from him.
At age seventeen Baelor won a crown for his father with Maekar at his side.
At age thirty two Baelor is a king in need of a consort.Or: Daeron II's children are born in the opposite order. Aegon IV lives an extra ten years and made that Maekar's problem, specifically, by mating his teenaged grandson against his will. After the Great Spring Sickness Baelor must remarry and father more children. His brother is the only person he can imagine doing that with.

Summary
After Dunk lost his dear Ser, he decides to go to Ashford and tries to become a glorious knight in his own right.
Unfortunately, omegas should not be knights and no one remembers his old master.His journey starts alone with his just his horses, but he quickly finds new friends and even a squire. At a feast he snuck in with his new friend and new squire, Dunk catches the eye of Lord Lyonel Baratheon who is smitten by the hedge knight and wants to take him back with him to Storm’s End.

Summary
Baelor survives the mace blow at Ashford. What Dunk doesn't survive nearly as well is being quietly adopted by Prince Maekar Targaryen without ever once noticing it's happening. Convinced Maekar can barely stand the sight of him, Dunk spends his time at Summerhall with Egg as his squire bracing for the moment he's finally thrown out. Meanwhile, everyone else in the family is too busy fondly watching Maekar fuss over him like a mother hen to explain that he's not leaving.
(Alternatively: the 7 times Dunk didn't realise he'd become a Maekarling, and the +1 time he did.)
