Summary
After a lifetime spent learning how to destroy, Eivor returns to her inherited farm outside Laragh, County Wicklow, determined to learn how to restore instead. While the villagers expect another absentee owner eager to sell off a piece of old Ireland, they find a stubborn Nordic craftswoman rebuilding stone walls, reviving streams, planting orchards, weaving living hedges, and slowly bringing Fox Hollow Farm back to life.
Unbeknownst to her, the valley is already under the watchful care of Randvi, an ancient Fae noble tied to its waters and wild places, who becomes increasingly fascinated by the human choosing stewardship over profit. As fish are quietly exchanged beside a deep woodland pool, a mysterious heron appears with suspicious regularity, an ogre named Patrick finds an unexpected friend, and two women devoted to caring for the same land begin speaking a shared language neither yet realizes is love.

Eivor hesitated once they were standing before the closed door, but Randvi walked right for it, opening it and slipping inside. Eivor followed her, drawn like a moth to flame.
Inside, the chamber was dimly lit, glowing warmly in the light of a fireplace and several scattered candles. Soma was sprawled in a chair by the fire, reading a letter in one hand. She’d already shed her armor, now dressed only in a pair of dark linen pants and a blue shirt cuffed to the elbows.
She looked up when they came in. “So both of you have come? I had hoped for as much. One of you would have sated my appetite, but I’d much prefer the pair of you.”
