Chirrut’s fingers curled inwards, nails scraping over Baze’s black robes. He stepped closer, and his face tucked into the crook of Baze’s neck.
He said, “It isn’t enough.”
Words on their bones kept distance between them. Their city fell apart, again and again.
But they would learn to stand amidst the clouds, nonetheless: first on the unsteady wings of swallows, then with wings of their own making.
