"Do you trust me?" is all Rozanov says after a moment, and Shane nods immediately without pausing to think about it. There's really no need to — if Shane didn't trust him, at least on some level, he wouldn't be here. He's already trusting him with his biggest secret, one that could destroy his entire career; he thinks he'll be okay if Rozanov wants to... what? Blindfold him? Tie him up?

Shane glances at the tie, then nods again, a little more emphatically. Whatever Rozanov has in mind, he wants it.

    “What did you actually think?”

He can’t help it. He looks at Ilya. Ilya only stares at him. “I say that now, in hindsight. Back then, I wasn’t thinking. Not really. It would come to me in waves, the anxiety, the fear. Most of the time,” he says. “I was just…”

“Waiting for me to speak?” Ilya offers.

Shane shakes his head, “I was trying to make it to tomorrow with you alive.”

    or,
Ilya and Shane work to find themselves, and each other, again after Ilya's suicide attempt.

Yuna’s entire body aches, and it would appear that her instincts were right— Rozanov is small, and he’s vulnerable, and he’s tired, and he needed somewhere safe to rest.

And Yuna can’t help the weird sense that she’s honoured— her home was somewhere for Rozanov to go, even if she and David knew nothing about any of it, even if they still don’t, Shane knew it would be safe for Rozanov here. Shane told him to come home.

"I did. After MLH awards, in June. Oh, I did not tell him about Shane and me. But what he did, it was important. It changed things. For me, at least - maybe for us."

On the night of the MLH awards, Ilya corners Scott Hunter on a quiet balcony.

    Summary

Shrugging one shoulder far more casually than he possibly feels, Ilya says, “I like both. Is secret, okay?”

    “Okay,” Hollander says, voice cracking.

He doesn’t say anything else. The air’s so heavy around them that it feels like being in the middle of a scrum, the weight and heat of all those bodies pressing down on you. Danger always feels like hockey; it’s the most dangerous thing Ilya knows, except for this. Everything dangerous in his life involves men’s bodies and just how close he can get to them. Closer than he probably should.

A year after mysteriously dropping out of the 2009 draft, Shane Hollander is signed by the Boston Raiders, right behind Ilya Rozanov. Having the two biggest stars in the league on the same line is great for Boston — but playing alongside their worst rival was never exactly in Shane or Ilya's plans. Especially not when staying away from each other starts to feel just as impossible as getting along.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This is my absolute favorite hollanov fic I think. It’s so satisfying to read about them on the same team and really makes me happy, plus the writing style is so good and visceral, and they’re so tender and intense with each other. I’m not sure I’ve ever felt characters’ feelings as deeply as in this fic.

    Just gonna put an excerpt:

Laying in his bed, holding him the way nobody holds him, treating Ilya like his baby, the way Ilya has been desperate to be treated his whole life. This kind of care seems to come easily to Shane in moments like this, but he doesn't give it away to anyone else.
Ilya knows he must be special, in some form, in Shane's strange and rigid world.
