Summary
Collingwood Hammer had seen many things, including the man sitting in front of him. Several times, in several stages of a mental health crisis. At least, Hammer noted, he was at ease now, or in control enough to sprawl out on a chair with dark sunglasses at stark odds with the bright teeth that were flashing at him like a danger sign.
His eyes flicked over the poised woman seated on the right. She smiled amiably at him, close lipped and eyes cold.
“Thank you for coming, Mr Wayne and Ms Head.” He glanced at her. “It is Ms, yes?”
She inclined her head. “Correct.”
“We’re not married,” Wayne said. “Aren't we?”
“I would hope you’d remember if we were, beloved,” Ms Head said lightly, eyes shooting over to him like a lightning strike.
“God, me too.”
“I am unmarried,” Head decided. “Whether Bruce is is uncertain. Apparently.”
“Well, I think —”
“Headmaster Hammer, I assume you've called us here today for a reason.”
