Summary
Da-ge was dead. He was dead. He had died right in front of Nie Huaisang’s eyes, the victim of a qi deviation. It was exactly how he had feared his older brother would go since he had watched their father die, the same brutal way, at barely 6 years old.
Nie Huaisang stayed in his room for the first two days, not coming out and sobbing into his pillows whenever he had more tears to spare. He vaguely remembers people coming into his room to ask about sect leadership. He also remembers offloading all the responsibilities onto Zonghui instead of having to think about them himself.
He’s started snapping at anyone who approaches him on the fourth day, when his sworn brothers attempt to talk to him. He doesn’t remember exactly what he says to them, he just knows that it’s hurtful. He thinks he blames one of them, most likely both of them, for his Da-ge’s death. Anything to stop feeling so damn guilty.

Summary
Jiang Yanli finally returned, with two jugs of wine, but nothing to drink the wine from.
“We don’t have a bowl. It would be indecorous to just drink from the bottle.” Wen Qing said. It was a token protest, and they both knew it.
“It’s just the two of us down here, isn’t it?” As Jiang Yanli said this, she uncorked the bottle and took a drink from it, a single drop missing her mouth and slowly making its way down her throat. It was indeed extremely indecorous. Wen Qing wanted to lick it from the hollow of her throat. Jiang Yanli seemed to have won that argument, then.
Or: When the Wen invade Lotus Pier, Jiang Yanli pulls Wen Qing into her family's wine cellar. It's a good hiding place, but being alone in the candlelit dark with Jiang Yanli and large stores of wine is doing horrible things to Wen Qing's composure.

Summary
So there was this jar, and it had so much peanut butter still in it, and when his fox nose scented it and didn’t catch any poison or spoilage, what was he supposed to do? Not avail himself of this gift? No. He shoved his delicate little snout right in there and got to licking, but, you know… Elegantly. Definitely not snarfing and making horrible little fox sounds and rolling around on the ground while he went ham on the jar. Sure, he had to work a little bit to get at the last of it, but anything good is worth working for, right? So finally, triumphant, no longer starving, and maybe a little thirsty now from eating half a cup of peanut butter in about two minutes, he’d tried to remove his head from the jar.
Operative word tried.
Or: Wei Ying gets stuck. Lan Zhan helps.

Summary
It is an odd thing, to be the only adult amidst a gaggle of teenagers.
Frankly, it is exhausting. They have certain…. expectations of him, especially the Gusu Lan juniors, and Huaisang has made it a life mission of his to never rise up to anyone’s expectations, but they just won’t let it go.

It is weird to realise that you have lived longer than you've planned for. Nie Huaisang learns to deal with the aftermath.
