Johnny had never been more grateful that he and his boys were badasses. They had no home, no family or friends left except each other. It sucked but at least none of them had been stuck on their own with no one but a zombie to talk to.

Eren most of all is touched by this and it gives him the courage he needs to reveal his feelings. Turns out the captain knew all along.
