This time they'd done it. As all powerful co kage's there weren't any foes that husbands Sasuke and Naruto couldn't bring down. They were the strongest ninja alive. Their unity only made them stronger. No one could take them down in their current states. There was peace between nations. Aside from the random Kaguya worshipper who wanted to try to free her now and again. Which is why they really should have been ready when their foe whipped out a time travel jutsu and declared he'd kill their childhood selves.

Summary
Luffy, the new Pirate King, the one who was supposed to lead the new generation of pirates. To inspire them. Yet he had failed. He had died in this war he couldn't stop from happening. He died in this war because he wasn't strong enough, wasn't ready enough. He took on his dream, inherited the legacy of the King of Pirates too early, too inexperienced not in adventures, but time. He was too young.
So as he died on the battlefield that fateful day, pirates would cease to exist.
He had welcomed death with open arms, he knew the end was inevitable. He knew he had no choice, not anymore. That day he expected to die and go to wherever he would go after dying. He wasn't afraid anymore.
Yet he landed back in time.
He was thrown back into the body of his seven year old self. He traveled thirteen years back in time. The only thing that was different was he already knew the future that would come, the future he could change. This time, he was sure, he could save everyone with this unexpected second chance.
This time, he could choose which path to take. He could save his friends. He could save everyone.
Or
Luffy time travels and saves his friends this time around.

Summary
Usopp didn’t say anything, instead just pointing at Luffy’s soulmark.
He blinked down at it in amazement. It wasn’t black anymore. It was a deep blue, gleaming metallic under the harsh lights of the cabin.
“Oh! WOW!” he exclaimed. “When did that happen?”
“When did… Luffy, are you serious?”
“Why should I know?”
“…they said it to your face!”
“Oh yeah! Hmm…” Luffy paused, squinting harder at the words. “I don’t remember.”

Everyone says that soulmates are a special, wonderful thing, and Luffy believes that wholeheartedly. But no one seems able to describe what makes them so different from the many, many other people Luffy’s loved in his life.
And he was fine not knowing right up until his own words finally lit up. Now, not only doesn’t he understand what they stand for, but he doesn’t even remember who said them to him! And each passing day makes it less and less likely that he’ll find out.
Oh well, Robin says these things eventually sort themselves out. He can only hope that she’s right (she usually is).
