Why would Grace be so scared to admit that he needs help? On Erid, when someone somehow falls sick, the entire family gathers to take care of them. Was that not customary on Earth? Rocky could hardly stomach the thought… humans suffering, cold and alone, with no one to comfort them…
OR: Ryland Grace gets a nasty cough when the Hail Mary is only about halfway to Erid. Rocky doesn’t know what to do, or how to help, until it might be too late.

Rocky prayed for the first time in his life the day his crewmates got sick. He had never been one of the religious types. In fact, most Eridians weren’t. But this was something that he couldn’t fix. So, in desperation, he turned to something else.

“His name is Ryland Grace.”Grace opened his eyes for the very first time. The wail of a newborn baby blessed the room as the child was passed to the awaiting arms of his mother. Warm arms held him close, and soothing whispers lulled him to sleep.
Unbeknownst to them. A prayer was answered.

Grace returns to rescue Rocky, and conveniently did not sleep the entire way there. Grace collapses in the hall, which leads to the revelation that he never actually wanted to die in space in the first place.
