Summary
Prompt: The Musketeers are all openly female. King Louis is amused by the concept of a female guard, and once they've proven themselves all to be extremely competent, he allows it.
They appeared on her doorstep late into the night, and Constance could tell they had been running through hell and back. The kohl that lined Porthos’ eyes were smudges instead of the steady lines she usually wore, and while Constance was used to seeing Aramis’ lips stained red she knew blood when she saw it. Athos’ gorgeous, wild hair that usually tumbled down her waist had been hacked short in jagged, ugly cuts from her shoulders to her chin.

There had been nothing in d'Artagnan's training about the proper procedures to be adopted in this particular situation. There was no chapter in the textbook or day-long workshop on what to do if you happened, in the course of an entirely different investigation, to discover the possible location of a detective sergeant's long-since disappeared fiance.
Fortunately, d'Artagnan wasn't given to qualms, so he strode straight up to detective sergeant du Vallon the instant he returned to the station, and declared, "The guy we just brought in on that ivory smuggling case says he knows where your fiance is, and wants to cut a deal."
Retrospectively, it probably wasn't the best way to go about telling Porthos.
The cleaners, who would have to deal with the coffee that had splashed over the floor as Porthos dropped his mug in shock, would certainly have preferred something with more tact.
