Summary
Regulus Black survives the cave, but is left haunted from the experience. He continues his journey to take down Voldemort and accidentally ends up with the position of the Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher at Hogwarts.
James Potter is informed that Slughorn has suddenly vanished, and he is asked to take on the role of Potions Master until a more permanent solution can be found. Feeling useless and wanting to help, he takes on the position, but is soon both frusterated and intrigued by the DADA teacher who seems to hate him.

James Potter is a simple man.
He enjoys Quidditch and spending time with his friends and playing jokes on others and making people laugh.
He likes making others happy, the feeling of sitting in front of a fire after a long walk in the cold, and eating a meal with the people he loves.
And, most of all, he loves making the love of his life fall apart in front of him; turning him into a whimpering, needy, pleading, wholly vulnerable mess.

Sometimes, Regulus needs to be taken care of. And James is nothing if not a people pleaser. -

He'd always been quiet. Maybe it was his nature, maybe it was that past partners had made him feel...self-conscious. But Regulus had always been near-silent when with someone.
He hadn't thought a lot about it. it was a reflex, at this point, to bite down on his arm, or the sheets, or his own tongue, to keep himself quiet. Whenever he betrayed himself and let the smallest moan free, he felt embarrassed, and worked even harder to get himself under control.

“Nice dreams, love?” James asked softly, kissing at the back of Regulus’s neck, leaning forward to nip at his earlobe gently.
“Mmmm,” Regulus half-moaned half-agreed, pressing back into James a bit. “Guess who they were about?”
“I know who I hope they were about,” James grinned, tugging at the hem of Regulus’s shirt to kiss at his bare shoulder, a little overwhelmed by the pale expanse of skin there.
