    Summary

When Sandaime-sama sacrifices himself to save the Namikaze family during Naruto’s birth, the threads of fate are rewoven. Loose ends have been either tied up or cut off. Lives are changed for better or worse.

Sakura’s trying to figure out where her fate has landed.

“If we were wolves, you’d be the runt of the litter. Left for dead or eaten alive in the winter.” Her teeth were bared at him in something of a snarl with tears in her eyes. It was an ugly look, she knew, but she’d rather say her piece now if her team intends to leave her behind.

Nakairi (中入り): when the performers step behind the curtain or set between the first and second half of a play to changes masks or costumes. Similar to an interval, intermission, or an entre'act.

"The interval is a rest for the spectators; not for the action," - Jean-François Marmontel, 1763

Just because most of Team 7 is gone, off striving for newer and greater heights, that doesn't mean the world stops for Haruno Sakura. In a world where she doesn't apprentice to the Godaime Hokage (can't, won't, what difference does it make when the result is the same?) her desperation leads her to a different solution: keeping Team 7 alive, anyway she can. Whether Kakashi-sensei wants her to or not.

“He’s at the palace with Fennec Shand, and the word is that he’ll start receiving vassals in the next few days,” Cor finished, staring again at Cerium, who had regained her classic composure and returned to her work. Without looking up, Cerium answered the unasked question with her own.
“And you came here hoping for an “in” to meet with Boba without being immediately shot for your outstanding debts to Fortuna, and maybe even get a fresh start?” He stared hard at her, a calculating look full of resentment, greed, and fear.
“Would you prefer I try to explain it to the Pykes?”
She merely looked at him. He evidently thought it was a finishing dejarik move; he knew that she knew that wasn’t a real option.
“What makes you think he’d want to see me?”
    Silence reigned in the shop.

    Summary

I got inspired by "How Kakashi got Adopted by the Nara" by Voldecourt, and this series is the result. It's how I think things could have gone down afterwards between Shikako and Kakashi.

The premise for this series is that Shikako shadow-bonded to Kakashi to save his life during a mission, disregarding the social consequences that doing so might have on her. This isn't something that could be hidden from her clan, due to it's effects on Shikako and Kakashi's shadows, so Kakashi is honorarily adopted as a Nara. Obligations, expectations, and traditions then all come into play, as Kakashi learns Nara lore and shadow techniques.

I've headcanoned that Voldecourt's fic was preceded by events similar to Tirfarthuan's "Shikako Mindwalks Kakashi" (it's posted over on the Recursive thread pgs 281-283). If you've not read them, I encourage you to do so!
